Local Python software development company Byte Orbit is calling on all tech entrepreneurs to enter the third annual Startup Knight competition for the chance to win total prizes of R160 000 cash and a further R250 000 worth of software development time and PR assistance.
This year’s theme is “Technology That Enables” and is specifically for startups and concepts focused on innovations that enable SMEs to operate more efficiently, more competitively or achieve scalability.
Startup Knight is divided into two phases: the Startup Phase and the Concept Phase. The Startup phase requires entrants to already have a working prototype or a product in the market, while the Concept phase requires that entrants have a commercial viable and innovative idea that has or the ability to attract high volumes of users.
Eight Startup finalists and eight Concept finalists will be selected and will be announced on 31st October and will thereafter go on to attend a mentorship day on 7th November at Byte Orbit Offices in Cape Town where they will have to pitch to entrepreneurs.
The finalists will be required to pitch to a judging panel on 8th November and the winners will be announced on the evening of the same day at the Startup Knight cocktail event.
The grand prize in the Startup Phase includes software development to the value of R150 000 and R100 000 cash and the runner up will get R50 000. In return, Bite Orbit will take a minority stake in the winning companies.
